Marcello's at the Station
8 Wilsey Square, Ridgewood
(201) 652-2120
This high end, very Italian restaurant is
clearly worth trying. Entrees are mostly standard fare, but
beautifully done and very attractively presented. The decor is
lovely, the service attentive, but not condescending. Check the
"specials" prices before ordering. $$$ [9/96]
Tiramisu
Restaurant
20-26 Maple Ave., Fair Lawn
(201) 791-6612
This latest incarnation of the old Opal's is a
winner. It is, of course, very Italian, but everything is done
well. The sauces are fresh and very good, the pastas are hearty
and well made, and the soups are remarkably tasty. Up to 6 PM
there is an early bird special that is the bargain of the
century!!! $$ [8/96, revisited many times]
Cafe
L'Amore
455 Ramapo Valley Road (Rt 202), Oakland
(201) 337-5628
This is one of the better
Italian restaurants in Bergen County and it's also one of the
best values. Everything is just right, from the friendly service
to the fresh cut flowers on each table. The food is very well
prepared, with some interesting and creative dishes to compliment
the standards. Located just off Route 208, it is only 10 minutes
from Glen Rock! $$ [12/95]
Andrea's
26 E. Prospect Street, Waldwick
(201) 670-0275
There is no shortage of Italian restaurants in
Bergen County, but there is a shortage of good ones. Andrea's has
been around for more years than Andrea would like to admit. He's
obviously doing something right. Prices are a bit high and the
preparations are not especially creative. But, when you're doing
it right, why change? $$$[11/95]
Radicchio
Restaurant
32 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood
(201) 670-7311
Radicchio has proven that they are one of the
better Italian restaurants in the area. Because there are so many
tables, the kitchen can get somewhat overwhelmed when the place
is filled, and service can be marginal, but any other time the mostly traditional Italian food
is excellent. Prices are high for area
restaurants, but the portions are enormous so lunch the next day
is part of the deal. $$$$ [6/95]
La
Campagna
Ristorante
3 Elm Street, Morristown
(973) 644-4943
Only 35 minutes away via Route 287, this is an
outstanding Italian restaurant. The atmosphere in this relatively
small storefront is cozy and comfortable, but definitely not
casual. This is a serious restaurant and Chef/owner Joe Cetrulo
is obviously serious about his food. Offerings are nouvelle
Italian with great emphasis on freshness and only the best
ingredients from herb-steeped olive oil to the tiramasou (the
best we've ever had!). $$$ [5/95]
